English for life in Canada

English for everyday life in Canada - plus, for newcomers, the approved language tests and how results map to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

Everyday English in Canada

Day-to-day life in Canada runs on practical English: opening a bank account, renting a home, booking and attending medical appointments, getting started at work, and the small talk that builds relationships. Lessons that rehearse these real situations help newcomers settle in faster.

English for immigration

For most economic immigration and permanent-residence programs - and some work programs - the Government of Canada (IRCC) requires an approved language test. English results are expressed on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

The approved English tests are IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General and PTE Core. Each test's score is converted to a CLB level across reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The CLB level you need depends on the specific program, and requirements change - always check the official requirements for your program before booking a test.
